Dr. Robin Avelar La Salle | President and Founder of Orenda Education (Keynote Speaker)

Dr. Robin Avelar La Salle is President and Founder of Orenda Education, a research, professional education and technical assistance organization. For more than 26 years, Dr. Avelar La Salle and the Orenda team have been thought partners for districts and schools aspiring to transform their systems and practices to raise student achievement. An equity warrior and an advocate for justice within the educational system, Dr. Avelar La Salle’s mission is to change the odds for the twenty million kids in US schools for whom the current systems of instruction and improvement are not working -- predominantly Latino, African American, and a host of students from under-resourced families. 

She received her Ph.D. in Education from Stanford University, and during her career has held the roles of teacher, principal, district administrator, researcher, and university professor. She is the author of many articles on education equity and several books,  Shattering Inequities: Real World Wisdom for School and District Leaders, and her latest work, “Where Equity Lives: Eliminating Systemic Inequity Traps in Schools and Districts, both written in partnership with Dr. Ruth S. Johnson.

Dunia Elvir | News Anchor | Noticiero Telemundo 52/KVEA

Dunia Elvir is the News Anchor for Telemundo 52’s weekday evening newscasts Noticiero Telemundo 52 a las 6PM y 11PM. Telemundo 52 is Telemundo’s West Coast Flagship television station, delivering nearly 30 hours of local news and programming to audiences in Southern California each week, including breaking news coverage, up-to-the-minute weather forecasts, and entertainment.

Elvir is an Award-winning journalist with more than two decades of a successful career in journalism. She began her journalistic career in 1990 at Telemundo 52 Los Angeles, she joined Telemundo Network in 2002 and returned to KVEA in 2008 where she served as a News Reporter and Anchor. In 2010, she was named Anchor for the station’s morning newscast, a position she held for six years until she was named Co-Anchor for Noticiero Telemundo 52 a las 5 PM in 2016. In 2018, she was named Anchor for the debut newscast Noticiero Telemundo 52 al Mediodia.

Her storytelling has earned her prestigious awards, including three Golden Mikes from the Radio & Television News Association of Southern California, 13 Los Angeles Area Emmy Awards, and a GLAAD Media Award, among others. In 2004, she was named one of the 13 most outstanding Latinas in the United States by the National Association of Latina Leaders (NALL).

Some of her most notable interviews include UK Prime Minister Tony Blair and more than five presidents from various Latin American countries. In 2014, Elvir was the first and only Latina to serve as a moderator in California's gubernatorial debate between Governor Jerry Brown and Neel Kashkari in Sacramento.

Elvir has contributed to the Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History initiative “Escuchame: The History of Spanish-language Broadcasting in the U.S.” by donating a pair of painted tennis shoes illustrating personal and career highlights.

In 2023, Elvir was one of seven Latina journalists featured in “¡De última hora! Latinas Report Breaking News,” a bilingual exhibit at the Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History showcasing the work of Latina journalists and how they wrote the first draft of history for major U.S. events for the Spanish-language communities they report on and for.

Elvir serves as a volunteer teacher for InsideOUT Writers, an organization whose mission is to reduce the juvenile recidivism rate of formerly incarcerated youth and young adults, she is a Girl Scout Troop Leader and serves as the station’s ambassador for March of Dimes’ “March for Babies Walk.”

She is a member of the National Association of Hispanic Journalists (NAHJ), The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS PSW), Radio and Television News Association (RTNA) and the Los Angeles Press Club.

Elvir earned her Bachelor of Science in Business Management and a master’s degree in business administration from the University of Phoenix. Elvir also completed a journalism fellowship with the University of Southern California (USC).

Darlene Berg | Personal Trainer | Owner of Endless Fitness in Claremont

Darlene Berg is a dedicated and passionate personal trainer and fitness studio owner of Endless Fitness in Claremont, with over 20 years of experience in the fitness industry.  She is a strong advocate for health and wellness, working with a diverse range of clients, from children to the elderly and people with Traumatic Brain Injuries, athletes, or post rehab. Her approach is holistic, focusing on mental and emotional well being through physical fitness. 

She is a member of the Claremont Chamber of Commerce and participates in events around the Claremont community. She is known for her philanthropic efforts, and is deeply committed to giving back to her community through her work with various organizations, schools, and groups. She has organized an annual gift giving event for students with the Claremont school district for the past 3 years, organizes a yearly fundraising event for the Alzheimer’s Association for the past 13 years, she is involved in advocacy for the LGBTQIA+ community, partners with the Upland Girl Scouts to run a yearly field day event, and has volunteered to run PE and field day events for different school districts. 

She creates a strong sense of community with her clients, fostering an environment of inclusivity, support, motivation, and personal growth. Through her work in fitness, Darlene has positively impacted countless lives, helping people achieve their fitness goals and live healthier, more fulfilling lives.

In addition to all of the above, Darlene is a mother to an active, imaginative, and independent 5 year old who just started Kindergarten in the Claremont School District. 

Lisa Braun-Ward | Relationship Manager, Government Markets | Empower

Lisa Braun-Ward is a Relationship Manager in Government Markets. In her role, she serves as the primary relationship manager for plan sponsors in California and Nevada and their respective deferred compensation committees. Her responsibilities include working closely with key decision makers to help ensure the optimal operation of each plan and identifying opportunities for increasing important plan metrics such as participation and savings rates and investment diversification.

Lisa joined the organization in 1990 and has been working with public employer deferred compensation plans for over 34 years.

Lisa holds a bachelor’s degree in business management with an emphasis in marketing from Loyola Marymount University-Westchester. She currently maintains FINRA Series 6 securities registrations and the Series 63 and 65 state securities licenses. She also has Series 26 credentials. She has also obtained the Certified Retirement Counselor (CRC) designation from the International Foundation for Retirement Education (InFRE).

Nita L. Watson | USA Competitive Boxing Trainer and Cognitive Behavioral Therapist | The Self Care Lab

USA Competitive Boxing Trainer and Cognitive Behavioral Therapist Nita L. Watson believes in the healing power of the fight. After falling in love with boxing in 2016, she decided to open a new kind of gym where athletes would have world class coaching in both the physical aspect of the sport as well as mental health awareness and strategies for life-long success. With her M.A. in Counseling Psychology and her certification through the U. S. A. Boxing Association, she opened The Self Care Lab in 2017 in Pomona, California, where athletes fought their battles with grace and courage. 

Nita uses the rigorous training of boxing to empower athletes of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds to be agents of their own healing. Her visionary training has been sought out by educators, pastors, and corporate executives, as well as LAPD Officers, developmentally delayed adults, survivors of domestic violence, and children sentenced to community service. Having conquered trauma of her own, Nita knows that to be truly healed is to go back and get someone else. She is whole and healed, but raw and real, too. She is an eclectic therapist, a fearless boxing trainer, and a transformative leader in the community. 

In her career, Nita has advocated for youth programming and community enrichment in Pomona and surrounding cities, in efforts to provide trauma informed care for youth and vulnerable adults over the last 20 years. Nita has held various roles over her long career including non profit organizational board member, therapeutic behavioral services supervisor, therapist, marriage counseling associate, boxing coach and adjunct professor. She has a passion for supporting fostered probation youth and has extensive experience creating and coordinating treatment plans for both young age boys and girls.

Her name is Nita, and she does miracles.

Dr. Kelly Campbell | Vice Provost | California State University, San Bernardino

Kelly Campbell is California State University, San Bernardino’s Vice Provost, Accreditation Liaison Officer, and Co-Chief Diversity Officer. She earned her Ph.D. in child and family development from the University of Georgia and her master’s and bachelor’s degrees from The University of British Columbia. As a first-generation student herself, she felt a deep connection with CSUSB’s student population, which inspired her to work at the university. Education had a transformative impact on her life, and she aimed to facilitate the same transformation for the students she served. Dr. Campbell’s current portfolio includes institutional strategic planning, accreditation, student success, academic programs and curriculum (including the general education program, university honors program, and graduate studies), academic scheduling, and community engagement. As part of her Co-Chief Diversity Officer role, she oversees the President’s 70-member Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Board. Dr. Campbell was previously a professor of Psychology for 14 years. Her research focused on relationships with an intercultural lens, and she conducted studies in the U.S., Canada, England, France, Greece, Italy, Portugal, and South Africa. She has published over 35 peer-reviewed manuscripts including a book on women’s sexuality around the world and has presented at over 100 professional conferences. Dr. Campbell’s research has been featured on NBC television, CBS radio, NPR, TMZ, Sirius XM Radio, and in publications such as the Wall Street Journal, Men's Health, Women's Health, and Cosmopolitan. She previously served as the Associate Director of the Institute for Child Development and Family Relations, co-founder and co-director of CSUSB’s South Africa study abroad program, and radio host and podcaster for the show “Let’s Talk Relationships.” Dr. Campbell has secured awards for her work including the Golden Apple Award for Teaching Excellence and Outstanding Teaching Award from the International Association for Relationship Research.

Amanda Aguilar | Self-Love and Empowerment Coach

Amanda Aguilar is a passionate Self-Love and Empowerment Coach, dedicated to helping young girls and women break free from societal pressures and step into their truest, most powerful selves. With an unwavering mission to inspire authenticity, Amanda guides her clients to embrace their unique journeys and create lives full of meaning and confidence.

As the host of the popular podcast “Embrace Her Evolution,” Amanda sparks raw, unfiltered conversations about life’s struggles, helping listeners transform challenges into powerful opportunities for growth. Her voice serves as a beacon of inspiration for women ready to rewrite their own stories.

Amanda’s empowering message has resonated on the stages of women empowerment conferences, student leadership events, and numerous podcasts. In 2018, Amanda took the stage as a TEDx speaker, where she shared the importance of stepping outside your comfort zone. Her talk highlighted how true growth happens when we embrace discomfort and push beyond our limits.

After a successful decade in journalism, which included winning an Emmy Award for her work, Amanda made the bold decision to step away from the news industry and follow her true calling—helping others embrace their authentic selves and live with purpose and confidence.
