Claremont Unified School District is pleased to introduce Jeff Dunbar, who began serving CUSD schools as a Student Resource Officer (SRO) during the 2024-2025 school year. With a diverse background that spans professional baseball, automotive mechanics, and construction, Jeff brings a wealth of experience to our school community. Above all, his passion lies in working with young people and building positive, lasting relationships.

A Unique Path to Serving Youth

Jeff Dunbar's journey to becoming a Student Resource Officer is as varied as it is inspiring. A former high school and college baseball player at UC Riverside, he was drafted by the Seattle Mariners in 2007 and spent nearly six years in the minor leagues. After his athletic career, he pursued other passions, including working as an automotive mechanic and as a general contractor superintendent. In 2022, he realized a lifelong dream of becoming a police officer.

Driven to make a meaningful impact, Jeff embraced the opportunity to serve CUSD as an SRO. "I wanted to step into a role where I could help children and be a positive role model for the youth," he explains. His dedication to engaging with young people and fostering a sense of community is at the heart of his approach.

Building Trust Through Engagement

During his time with the Claremont Police Department, Jeff consistently sought ways to connect with the youth, offering support and encouraging positive interactions. This commitment remains at the forefront of his role within CUSD schools. "I want to establish a strong, positive relationship with the youth," Jeff says. "I want to be available for them and approachable."

Jeff aims to be more than just a law enforcement presence; he strives to be someone students and staff can trust and turn to, fostering an environment where everyone feels secure, respected, and understood.

A Friendly Face on Campus

Jeff's vision as an SRO goes beyond traditional duties. He is eager to be a mentor and a familiar, approachable presence, welcoming conversations on everything from student concerns to shared interests. "I enjoy anything car or sports-related," he says. "Come up and say hello anytime, or if you ever want to talk about hobbies, sports, or cars, I'm here."

Strengthening Our School Community

As Jeff settles into his role, his primary goal is to create a welcoming and supportive atmosphere for the entire school community. He is committed to bridging the gap between students, staff, and law enforcement, fostering a culture of openness and trust. "I want the students and staff to feel comfortable around me," Jeff notes. "Even if they just want to say hello and talk, I'll be there to listen and establish a friendly relationship."
